I was active during that period. A few people have popped in very briefly from
time to time but there is no real traffic at all these days. 'Tis a shame.

I was here regularly from around Autumn of 1995 until the group effectively
died, although not always using the same name.

For a long time, I couldn't figure out how to use the new programs, but I recently figured out how to post through gmail, so I'm now back and kicking. Is anyone else still around?

The victim of social media I assume. When I was posting regularly on this board, I remember it being mainly you, Elizabeth Miller and William R. Thompson (and me). I'm sure you heard about Elizabeth's passing. I don't know about William.

I have joined several Facebook groups pertaining to interests of mine, including horror, but mostly, people post screenshots with a few comments. I miss the long discussion threads that we used to have in the Usenet groups.

By the way, I want to say thank you. The TV show "Supernatural" has become one of my favorite shows of all time, and you introduced it to me. I had not heard of it until you posted a summary of an episode, I believe it was "Bloodlust", a vampire episode from season 2. After reading your post, I checked out the show and became hooked. So, thank you!

Marcovaldi, I'm sorry to say that I don't recognize your name, but you seem to have
been on a.v. before, and you seem to know me. Have you ever posted under another
name that I might recognize?

At any rate, I am glad to see you here. We (you, me, and Incubus) seem to have a
similar interest in the vampire in history and literature. I'm looking forward to the
topics we can discuss. I've missed the great discussion on this group that used
to take place. Maybe, if there are others lurking, they will unveil themselves and
join in.

Facebook and Twitter really don't lend themselves to in-depth
discussion. What they are good for are slanging matches,
virtue-signalling and pretending to be someone you're not.

As someone once said to me, when using free services like Facebook, you
are the product. What you see is largely controlled by algorithms and
anything that goes against the orthodox narrative is easily buried, if
not outright removed because of "community standards". The whole thing
is an enormous datamining operation and with recent advances in AI, what
they can do with your information and how they can use it is terrifying
to anyone understands the implications.

Let's not dwell on peeps and fights. Hopefully, we've all grown beyond that
childishness and come now to talk seriously about the vampire in film,
history, and literature. Xorcist would be proud to see that the group he
created for the discussion of the vampire was finally on track.

I am in several groups on Facebook and, you're right, there doesn't seem to much interest in in-depth discussions.

There is a vampire subreddit that looks promising.

I used to like "Supernatural" when it ran during the first several years and featured a different
kind of mythical being in each episode. I kind of lost interest after the series got heavily into
the angel war stuff.

Another TV show I really liked was an episode of 'Star Trek' featuring a woman named Nancy
who sucked salt out of her victims. An then there was the honey-smelling cloud that sucked
blood from her victims.

So many good vampire movies in the past. What are your favorites? I particularly liked
'Dracula' played by Louis Jourdan. I remember watching that movie when I was flat in
a hospital bed after undergoing a C-section for the birth of one of my daughters. Okay,
I was high on pain killers, but Jourdain's Dracula could have taken me right then and
there and I wouldn't have cared.

"Supernatural" had many vampire episodes (the show ran for 15 years!)

I remember that Louis Jourdan miniseries! It's one of the most faithful adaptations of the Stoker novel. I remember thinking it was a shame that Maurice Chevalier wasn't still around to play Van Helsing.

I like the classics: the Browning / Lugosi "Dracula", "Dracula's Daughter". Even "Son of Dracula" had its moments. "Nosferatu" and "Vampyr" are great silent classics. Modern movies that I like a lot include "Let the Right One In", "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night".
